Meet the Pruetts, Missionaries in the Philippines

by Element Christian Church

Photos of Work

Brian, Bailey and their three children have been serving in the Philippines since 2008.  Brian is the pilot, mechanic, and program manager for Ethnos 360 Aviation - which provides air support for Philippine missionaries.  Bailey is ground support for the helicopter.  She monitors flights via satellite tracker, collects updated weather reports, and coordinates ambulances, fuel trucks, passengers and ground transportation for them.  She also homeschools their three children.

There are over 7,000 islands with 185 distinct languages.  Brian transports missionaries, groceries, hardware, teaching materials, patients, relief goods, etc…  Without this flight service, many of the outreaches would not be possible. The flight service enables outreaches and sustains teachers, ongoing discipleship and Bible translation in the most remote parts of the Philippines.

Parenting Conference

by Element Christian Church

Paul Tripp's Parenting Conference

Parenting is hard work, but what could be more important in your life than being one of God's tools to form a human soul? In his brand-new streaming event, Dr. Paul David Tripp will share four principles that can radically change the way you raise your children.

Tripp will teach on these 4 principles:

  • Session 1 - Calling: Nothing is more important in your life than being one of God’s tools to form a human soul.
  • Session 2 - Identity: If you are not resting as a parent in your identity in Christ, you will look for identity in your children.
  • Session 3 - Authority: One of the foundational heart issues in the life of every child is authority. Teaching and modeling the protective beauty of authority is one of the foundations of good parenting.
  • Session 4 - False Gods: You are parenting a worshiper, so it’s important to remember that what rules your child’s heart will control his behavior.

Details:
When: Friday Night September 7th from 6-8pm, and Saturday September 8th from 9am-12pm.
Where: Element Christian Church - 4890 Bethany Lane
Childcare: Is available on the church property with RSVP only.
Cost: $20 per family.

Worship

Welcome to Element Christian Church. Our intent is to worship God in the following ways:

  • Fellowship: We are gathering today as a corporate group to encounter our great God and Savior Jesus, together. We then “scatter” throughout the week and worship God daily by how we live and interact with others.
  • Music: We sing songs that speak of God’s desire, and ours, for knowing Him better.
  • Teaching: We learn truths from the Scriptures that apply to our lives today, just as they did when the Scriptures were originally written.
  • Communion: We take time to focus on Jesus and His sacrifice for us, then we actively partake of the elements which remind us of this sacrifice.
  • Giving: We give back to God as He has so graciously given to us (we do not pass a plate,  there are offering boxes stationed around the room for you to give).

Vision & Beliefs

Heritage: We believe the central truths of the historic orthodox Christian faith. We believe that Christianity today goes back, not only to the foundations of the apostles and prophets in New Testament Scripture (Ephesians 2:19-22), but also to Israel’s rich history as the people of God seeking to know Him. Today this all comes to culmination in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Journey: We believe that knowing God is a journey and not a destination. We believe that as we grow closer to God through Christ, we will realize how deep the love of God is for all mankind. Because our faith is a journey, change is expected and rebirth is essential.

Community: All people bear the image of God (Genesis 1:27), and as such, are worthwhile and should be treated with honor and respect. We believe we are to carry each other’s burdens, worship Jesus with a common voice, confess and pray with one another, and suffer and celebrate together.

Service:  We believe that Jesus was God in human flesh, and that the church is to be the main thrust of God’s ongoing presence in the world. Jesus, through God, came as a servant (Ephesians 2) and illustrated how we are to live and love others. As followers of Christ, we are to fight injustice, relieve suffering,  and be a compelling force for good in the world, as we care about the things God cares about.

View our Full Statement of Faith here.

Communion

Communion is a time that we focus more intently on what God is trying to say to each of us as we commune with Him.  When Jesus was about to be betrayed by one of His friends, He took some bread and broke it, which represented His body that was broken for us. He then took some wine and shared it with His disciples; this wine represented His blood that was to be poured out for us.

Communion is one of the very first rites ever instituted by the Christian faith.  It remembers a Hebrew heritage of God promising a Savior who would come and die to restore mankind. Through this death and resurrection of Jesus, we as people can have a renewed and restored relationship with God.  Jesus’ death takes away all of the garbage that stands between us and our Creator while His resurrection restores us to new life that we may commune with God in a very real way.

We take communion weekly, always in remembrance of what Christ has done.  You can take communion by coming forward as you feel led, breaking the bread, and dipping it in the wine (as the early church used wine) or grape juice (as the modern church does). The time of communion is a place of worship, reflection, and redefinition of our lives in accordance with God’s grace.

Giving

Giving: If you are a first-time guest or do not consider yourself a Christian, we do not expect you to give your money; we are simply glad to have you with us. If you visit a service, simply introduce yourself to us so we can say hi and get to know you. That’s your contribution to our service and ministry.

For those who call Element home, however, giving cheerfully, generously, and sacrificially of our finances is part of worship (Phil 4:18). Our work as followers of Jesus is to serve our God in all things, and one of the primary ways we serve God is by honoring him with our wealth (Prov 3:9, 2 Cor 9:7, Deut 16:16-17). At Element we ask our members to give, not by meeting some obligatory percentage,  but by simply giving as God calls them to; cheerfully, generously, and sacrificially. We want our members to give for the sake of the gospel because Jesus sacrificed for us, and all that we have is His anyway (Deut 8:17-18, 1 Chron 29:14, 1 Cor 4:7).

If you would like to give to Element at this time you can place your donation in one of the offering boxes located near one of the exits (we do not pass a plate) or you can give online. We appreciate your financial partnership.

Christmas For Kids

by Element Christian Church
in Connect

Dear Element Community,

Several years ago Element Christian Church began "Christmas For Kids", a program to reach out to needy children affected by divorce, family illness, parental unemployment, and the poor economy. Our goal is to help children who are not receiving government assistance and may fall through the cracks of our social systems.

We do this by inviting recommended children and their parents to spend a day shopping locally during the Christmas season with our church volunteers.   "Christmas For Kids" will be held on December 17, 2011. They choose clothing necessities, a toy, and are given a food basket for the family.

We invite you to partner with us as we reach out to the forgotten children of our community. At this point we are still in need of the following volunteers...

1.  Letters requesting donations have already been mailed to local businesses.  We need one or two people who will do follow-up contacts with these businesses to collect the donations.

2.  A person to be in charge of setting up, serving, and clean-up of the breakfast.

3.  People to bake 4 dozen homemade cookies to be sent home with each family.

4.  A person to be in charge of organizing the cookie bakers and cookie trays.

5.  People to take the children shopping.  You will need to be available on Dec 18th from 9AM to 2PM.  You will have breakfast with the families at the church, take the children shopping, then bring the children to a pizza lunch.

We also need names of children who would benefit from this program.  We will ask you to be the first one to make contact with the parents to ask permission to include their family in Christmas For Kids.

Finally, we need people to donate money.  There is a small Christmas tree, a present box, and donation envelopes at church.  It is located on the sign-up sheet table in the back. This is a difficult economy for many, and we appreciate your donations so that we can include as many children as possible.

We sincerely appreciate your participation in Christmas For Kids.  We are to be a missional church and this is just one of the small ways that we can show Jesus' love to those in need.  If you have any questions or would like to sign up to help, please contact Pam Brown at 264-4341

Young Unmarrieds

by Element Christian Church
in Connect

Everybody goes through different stages in life. One of these stages is the Unmarried Life Stage. You could be single, dating or engaged but you are still called to live a pure life. It is easy while in this stage of life to be consumers of the culture and live for yourself with no consequences for your future. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where we are looking forward and preparing for our future by dealing with the hard realities every young unmarried person faces. Element is launching two small groups to meet that need: Fortified - our young unmarried guy's group and Sanctified - our young unmarried gal's group. We separate by gender simply because you cannot openly discuss and deal with single issues in a co-ed setting.

Guy's Group

Our Young Unmarried Guys Group focuses on single living in the 21st century. What does it mean to be a Godly, unmarried guy? How can one prepare himself for his future stages in life? When does a guy move out of the 'adolescence' stage of life into manhood?

These are just a few of the questions our guys' group tries to answer as we develop Godly men who:

  • Leave their parents' home.
  • Become disciples of Christ.
  • Become leaders in the church.
  • Finish education/vocational training.
  • Start into a career tract job.
  • Meet a woman, propose, marry her, and have children.
  • Become leaders over their families.

Our primary objective is to shape men of God who take seriously their duty, mission, and relationships in life.

Join us as we meet weekly. Some of the topics this year will include: 'Dealing with Annoying People,' 'The Art of Manliness,' 'Sex for singles,' Interviews with married men, cooking, cleaning, setting and following budgets, paying bills, dancing, home and auto repair, yard work and so much more. We will have monthly get-togethers for service projects and/or fun activities (like going to the shooting range, poker nights, and lamb sheering - oh yes, mutton busting).

Meets Tuesday Nights - 7pm at Mikey's house. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more info.

Women's Group

Element's Young Unmarried Women's Group focuses on single living in the 21st century. What does it mean to be a Godly, unmarried woman? How can one prepare herself for her future stages in life? When does a girl move out of the 'adolescence' stage of life into womanhood? How does a young woman find a Godly young man to marry?

The Young Unmarried Women's Group exists to mature and transform the lives of young women, to connect young women to one another, to worship God together, and to prepare young women for marriage. We desire to become women of God who take seriously our faith, mission, and relationships in life.

Join us as we meet weekly. Some of the topics this year will cover: Biblical knowledge and faith, personality styles, womanhood, manhood, interpersonal relationships, contentment, and purity. We will also have interviews with married women and with men. We will learn some important skills such as cooking, crocheting, gift wrapping, hostess etiquette, and more. Join us as we also get together for service projects and leisure activities!

Meets Tuesday Nights - 7pm at Justine's house. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for more info.

Church Membership

by Element Christian Church
in Connect

Why Membership

The church is the community of Christians for all time who have been loved and saved by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:25)...so why does Element have members?

We believe that all Christians should vitally involved in a local church (Hebrews 10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.)  Our current culture is so individualistic that it pushes community and friendships aside for autonomy. But, we are not called to live the life of salvation in isolation (even though most Christians irritate each other).

The Bible is clear that every Christian is a part of the larger church body and is expected to participate in the life of a local church with the gift(s) God has given him or her(I Corinthians 12:1-31). Biblically speaking – part of how we are to show fruit and life is by US being together and learning how to live. God calls us to be one – in unity because we love Christ. Our God doesn’t only sit as a sovereign individual but is a community within Himself (trinity).

In the proper functioning of a church there are various roles laid out in the scriptures.
Elders are the male leaders of the church who are also called pastors, bishops, and overseers (Acts 20:28; Ephesians 4:11; I Peter 5:2). The elders are men chosen for their ministry according to clear biblical requirements (I Timothy 2:11-3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). The elders are always spoken of in plurality because God intends for more than one man to lead and rule over the church as a safeguard for both the church and the man.

Deacons are essentially assistant pastors. Unlike elders, deacons can be either male or female (I Timothy 3:8-13 especially 3:11), as with the example of the woman Phoebe (Romans 16:1-2).

Members are the Christians who are actively participating in the life of the local church so that it is built up for God’s purposes (I Corinthians 12:1-31 especially 12:24). The Facts of Membership

- A numerical record was kept (Acts 2:37-47)
- Records were kept of widows (I Tim. 5:3-16)
- Elections were conducted (Acts 6:1-6)
- Discipline was carried out (Matt. 18:15-20; I Cor. 5; Gal. 6:1)
- Elders will be held accountable for members (Heb. 13:17)
- There was an awareness of who was a church member (Rom. 16:1-16)

The issue of membership cannot be overstated. The members do the primary work of the church. Many see the primary work of the church as SUNDAY, but that is not true. The primary work of the church is YOU, US, living our lives. Our primary mission is to be out in the world.

Purpose

When anyone enters into relationship with God by grace from, and faith in, the person and work of Jesus Christ, they are entering into two covenants. The first is to journey with God for the rest of their lives and love Him fully. The second is to journey with His other children in the community of the local church. Your membership in a church is an official recognition of this, and the purposes of the Element Christian Church Membership Covenant are:

1) To join the Spirit in forming authentic community that reflects the relationship between the Father, Son & Spirit
2) To clarify the ongoing blessings & responsibilities of each member.
3) To encourage consistency, accountability and loving unity within the church family.
4) To accomplish God’s call for the Element church family.

Element Christian Church holds the issue of church membership in high regard. Members function as the primary missionaries for the church to the culture.  Members live, eat and breathe the climate of the Santa Maria Valley every day, placed in the culture to emulate Christ. We are called corporately as ambassadors of Christ to share and live the Gospel to those God—in His sovereignty— has placed in our lives. (Romans 12: 1-8)

The global church has a blemished track record of allowing members to become observers while an exhausted, burnt out pastor and staff do all the work in the church and the community around it.  Element is committed to creating a model that reflects God’s heart for His children. Membership is not merely a status symbol or social club, a member who enters into a covenant with their local church is called to a higher degree of responsibility. (I Peter 4: 8-10)

To transition from a regular attender to an official member of Element Christian Church, we have three requirements.

1) That you profess faith in Jesus Christ.
2) That you have been baptized (this doesn't have to have taken place at Element). We believe that one of the first acts of a Christian should be baptism. The model was followed in the early church and by the apostles. If you have question about baptism please see our baptism page.
3) That you attend The Weekender. The Weekender is a 2-day event intended for anyone who wants to move beyond simply attending services and explore how to get better connected. Friday night includes dinner with staff, elders, and other leaders, as well as an introduction to Element’s vision and core values. On Saturday morning, we’ll share the theological beliefs that shape those values, how your role and spiritual gifts can fit within our community, and answer any questions you might have. Baby Dedication

by Element Christian Church
in Connect

What is Baby Dedication?

Baby dedications essentially came about because certain churches after the reformation stopped observing infant baptism. As a body of believers we still want to encourage parents and children to do life in the midst of community, so at Element we practice child dedications.

A Baby Dedication is a short and simple ceremony in which believing parents, and sometimes entire families, make a commitment before the Lord to submit a child to God's will and to raise that child according to God's Word and God's ways.

What is involved in Baby Dedication

Christian parents who dedicate a child are making a promise to the Lord to do everything within their power to raise the child in a godly way, prayerfully, until he or she can follow Christ on his or her own within the framework of gospel community. Parents who make this vow of commitment are instructed to raise their children in the ways of God. Some of the responsibilities include teaching and training the child in God's Word, demonstrating an example of godliness, disciplining according to God's ways, and praying earnestly for the child.

A baby dedication at Element also involves the body of Christ as a whole, who also covenants with the parents to partner with them in being an example to children. We are a large family learning to do life together while we follow our great God and savior, Jesus Christ.

If you would like to have your child dedicated please fill out the form on the right and someone will be in touch.

Example of Baby Dedication in Scripture

And she (Hannah) made a vow, saying, "O LORD Almighty, if you will only look upon your servant's misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head." 1 Samuel 1:11 (NIV)

When God answered Hannah's prayer by giving her a son, she remembered her vow:

"As surely as you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you praying to the LORD. I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." And he worshiped the LORD there. 1 Samuel 1:26-28 (NIV)
